Bring Back King Po-T-Rik Molasses Now!!

How many of you out there have had King Po-T-Rik Molasses growing up?  Great on pancakes, waffles, hot dogs, baked beans, you name it, King Po-T-Rik molasses was the greatest.

If you are, or have been searching the WEB looking for King Po-T-Rik Molasses sadly you will not be able to find it or you will find online shops that used to carry it but show it is out of stock and some sites will have messages asking to you write in to the company that is responsible for King Po-T-Rik products.  Here is a link to one such site http://meatfarminc.com/kingpo-t-rikmolassesvaluepack1.aspx that you would run across.  Another site provides a history of the original company that made the molasses as well as the timeline of the company being purchased, where it moved to, and who the current owner is.  The gentleman that wrote the article is a distributor for Carriage House products http://www.southernreader.com/SouthRead10.9.html and his name is Jerry Barr who I believe is the owner of Barr None Distribution.  Another place to look to see who else is interested in bringing back the best Molasses ever know is a Facebook page, so if you are a member of Facebook you can type into the search bar "King Potrik Syrup" and you will be able to see other people that are interested.

Myself, I have written, emailed, and contacted both Ralcorp and Carriage House and both were nice enough to give me back some responses.  The plain and simple is both companies stated that if they got enough requests they would possibly consider bringing back the product to market.  However, to be truthful it would have to be a tremendous response, not just a couple of 1000 requests or so.  Mainly, as told to me they stopped making the molasses because there were not enough sales and thus they would need a certain amount of responses that they would feel would be profitable.  On that note I then asked them if they would be interested in selling the recipe and the rights to the molasses whereby maybe a smaller company could make the molasses and be profitable where the larger corporations could not be as profitable because of overheads.  To that question I never did receive a response and gave up trying after 3 attempts to get that answer I was looking for.

SO NOW TO THE POINT!!

As stated in the above, there are many, many hits on the WEB for people looking for King Po-T-Rik Molasses! Many of the sites asking for people to write into Carriage House and Ralcorp to ask, beg, plead, for them to bring back their molasses!  But from what I have seen, there are not many responses being generated or if they are being generated there is no one location where all of the people that are interested in getting King Po-T-Rik Molasses back on the market is tallied to show a total overall interest and response, so it makes it hard for each individual to see if their feedback, or even writing a letter to these companies will even make a dent let alone the difference that would be needed!  Along with that, many of the interested people do not have time to write letters and follow up to see what happens with the letter or even follow up to try and get a response and thus the choose not to respond at all.

WHAT THIS BLOG IS ABOUT?

The purpose of this site is to have one place, one area, where people can respond in regards to getting a single voice that can be counted and identified at some time when there are responses of measure that can be of impact.  Once we start getting "likes", responses, acknowledgements on this sites via Posts, links to other blogs, pages, etc.  we can then provide this blog link to the necessary people at both Ralcorp and Carriage House so they can get a good idea as to what it would mean to them to bring back King Po-T-Rik Molasses!!!

So if you have come here because of the recognition of brand, the memories of using the molasses for baking, cooking, or as a condiment with pancakes, waffles, and other foods, please do your best to post to this site, provide a link to others that you know that would like to see the molasses being produced again, add links to your Facebook pages, twitter the link in a message, whatever it takes to build the responses on this site so that we can have present a large single voice to be heard and tracked and presented back to Ralcorp and Carriage House in hopes they will consider making and distributing King Po-T-Rik Molasses again.

If you have made it this far through this message then it shows you are really interested in making this happen and I appreciate the fact as will many others (I hope) that you are interested in getting the word out!

Thanks and Regards,

The Corporate Mud Room

  1. Yay! So glad to have found you. We are huge King Pot T Rik Molasses fans. Our grandparents who lived in Maryland introduced our family of 8 to this wonderfully rich full bodied molasses on our visits every summer. It was such a treat to wake up in the mornings to the smell of hot cakes, scrapple & coffee, knowing we would get to enjoy this "special" molasses! It came in cans back then & we just knew it was something special! I can't help but think that places like Trader Joe's & Whole Foods would would be all over this product now. It's all marketing now a days. We need recipes & examples of how to use it, this would help sell it to a population whose taste buds are going for more earthy, natural tasting foods. The time is ripe to bring back King Pot T Rik Molasses....specialty food stores are abundant & this is special!

    2. I have 3.5 bottles of glass bottles of Po-T-Rik sorry that I left two at grandma's when she passed. Vowing to duplicate before it's gone. Can still find the syrup. Use them very sparingly. Syrup returned, molasses didn't. Have the red can too. The butcher shop sold the blue cans before I returned. Good history gone.

    3. When I told my cousin about the products going away he made calls and had accumulated about 30 bottles...🤔🙄gave me "1", wouldn't even sell me one. My God sister told her. Family that when she runs out, the pancakes and waffles stop. I gave her 3 bottles over time. Right now I'm using two syrups
And one molasses to recreate. Fingers crossed.

Then I started buying the regular king syrup and mixing it with molasses- not even close. Please bring this back!!!

  11. I grew up eating King O T Rik molasses. My favorite was on my moms homemade biscuits and sausage or country ham, that was so good. I was so disappointed when I could no longer find it. Have tried other brands but none are as good. Please bring it back.

  12. I grew up with King Po-T-Rik molasses. Mom, a Virginian, introduced us to it for use on pancakes without needing a fork. We would pour a blob in the middle of a plate, plop a nice size lump of soft butter in the middle and mix. Then we would, roll a pancake by hand, dip in the molasses and butter mixture and Boy was that Great! It was good and fun eating. No other brand comes close in taste. I believe there is a market out there if it would be marketed.

  16. Just realized that its not available anymore, I was waiting to see if it was just an anomaly that our stores didn't carry it. So I'm joining in the conversation. Bring this molasses back. Had we known that it was going away, there would have been cases brought and stored away. If its not as big of a seller as the company likes then scale back production. But no need to pull it from the shelves. Its the one molasses that I miss in my cabinet. It is not replaceable. Bring it back.

  29. I, too, am looking for the famed Po-t-rik. Growing up in Delaware, we used to have it on pancakes at grandmas house every time we visited. Biscuits, flatbread (panbread), it didn't matter. If you needed syrup for anything, Po-t-rik was what you used.

  30. I cannot believe it is no longer being manufactured. Its the best molasses you can buy. How about the people that want to make molasses cookies. How about the ones that use it on pancakes or biscuits. When I was a kid I had molasses everyday and mixed a little butter in it and sopped it up with a biscuit or a slice of bread. I use to love it on a slice of banana and on bread. It was a banana sandwich with molasses and it was really good. Wqe didn't get candy we ate molasses. My grandmother ate molasses everyday until she died at the ripe old age of 87. It takes a cruel person to put a halt on making King Po T Rik molasses.

  34. You would think that in this era of the "foodie" that companies would see how a product with such a strong following could catch in all over via the internet and stores like T.J.'s and Whole Foods. Now would be the time to try it, or to sell the name and recipe to someone who will. Bring back the King!

I'd be willing to buy it by the case just to have it again! One batch would give you a better idea of how popular your product is as opposed to blog remarks.

    ReplyDelete
  85. When it was discontinued my whole family was lost for words. Not enough people buying sounds like a poor excuse because I know dang well it was popular with most of the population of the Delmarva. Nothings been the same as them so we rarely get molasses anymore. It seems they lied about if enough demand they’d bring it back since here we are years later and still not back.
